Overview

Recent Microlise research within its prospective customer base has indicated an increase year on year of around 15% in the theft of high value assets such as vehicles / trailers or the goods in them. One prospective client even cited that they plan for one “trailer incident” per week!

The opportunities for the damage and loss of both goods and trailers, either when parked up or on the road, is an obvious and growing phenomenon.

To complement Microlise’s existing portfolio of vehicle tracking, telematics and mobile workforce technology, Microlise have introduced a dedicated Trailer Tracking solution as a further modular part of the Microlise portfolio of solutions.

By integrating trailers and demounts and other high value assets (e.g. capital plant) into the tracked fleet, their location & status can be monitored in real-time, whether they are on the move, or parked up without power. Sub-contract, spot hire and un-powered units are all accommodated within the solution.

The Microlise Trailer Tracking solution provides flexible options for large or small fleets alike with fitting options ranging from “quick kit and de-kit” through to integrated Suzi powered units with battery back-up supporting optional door, temperature sensing & even tractor identification.

Microlise Trailer Tracking solutions provide real-time alerting and reporting for : -
  • Unplanned / out of hours asset movement
  • Real-time asset location visibility (typically at 1 mile intervals for powered unit)
  • Door sensing including arming & disarming
  • Periodic wake up & report when disconnected
  • Vibration sensing / motion detection - wakeup
  • Optional alarm / screamer
  • Option temperature monitoring exceptions.

Summary of Offering

  • Scalability – Microlise Trailer Tracking solutions can be integrated with an existing Microlise Vehicle Tracking solution or deployed in a stand-alone mode either through Microlise’s Global Managed Service (customers access maps & reports via an internet browser), or via customer hosting.
  • Global Coverage - Through the use of the Quad-Band modem technology, (subject to GPRS network availability) vehicles can be tracked across Europe, the USA, Australasia and many other countries worldwide. Optional satellite connectivity.
  • Performance - Suzi Powered fixed tracking with battery back-up and optional door and temperature sensors. A typical fully charged battery will provide 40 days of normal “un-coupled” operation before it would need recharging. This is based on the unit reporting in every few minutes when “awake” and once and hour when “asleep”. Less than 2 hours of charge a day will keep the battery charged indefinately. In the case of the solar panel only product option, the unit is normally configured to report in hourly - in which case the unit will always be fully charged.
  • Alerts escalation - Unplanned vehicle movements, door open events or driver panic alerts can be escalated to optional email, SMS and pager services offered by Microlise. When an alert condition occurs, the Microlise Trailer Tracking solution enables the mode change of devices to provide ”minute by minute” or “metre by metre” granularity for stolen or suspect vehicle tracking and interception.

Business Benefits

  • Reduce consignment & vehicle insurance premiums.
  • Reduce asset & load shrinkage.
  • Reduce compensation cost for lost hire trailers.
  • Improve fleet utilization and reduced trailer and demount numbers – through better visibility and utilization of fleet assets, the number of required assets can be reduced.
  • Integrates with Microlise Transport Management Center & Advanced Planning & Scheduling modules – More cost effectively plan & manage vehicle and asset activities in the TMC using up to date location and availability information.
  • Proactively manage exceptions during operation with real-time updates - Manage your operation “by exception” with on screen, email, pager or SMS messages & alerts when critical events happen in the field freeing up more time to do other important tasks.
  • Provide full & flexible visibility of entire fleet - inlcuding spot hire & contract vehicles - flexible deployment methods to cater for mixed fleets.
